COVID Update
Edgewood Summit has had two positive COVID cases at the Ridgemont this week. One is an Employee in a Direct Care position and one is a privately employed Caregiver, however neither has had recent contact with the Community. Both individuals are self-isolating at home and doing well. Outbreak protocols were not needed with these positive cases. The Hodges Center remains in Outbreak as a result of the positive cases from the previous weeks.
The COVID Vaccination Clinic #3 took place on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 with the Kanawha Charleston Health Department onsite. We do not anticipate additional onsite clinics at this time. Edgewood Summit considers the COVID vaccinations a “Best Practice” for infection control and will to continue to educate and encourage vaccination. Anyone seeking vaccination is being referred to the new, centralized registration system which can be accessed at 1-833-734-0965 or www.vaccinate.wv.gov.
Edgewood Summit requirements remain in place for COVID precautions as the infection rate for COVID remains high in Kanawha County and the surrounding area but has seen signs of trending downward. It is important to remember that the vaccine does not provide full immunity of 95 percent until approximately 14 days following the second dose. Even after the 14 days, complete immunity does not exist and each vaccinated person can still remain a carrier and could potentially infect others. Therefore, caution and patience are the keys to continued success. Please continue to:
- Properly wear a Mask in the public areas within the building
- Socially distance from others at a minimum of 6 feet
- Hand wash frequently
Other things to remember:
- Direct care, end of life and compassionate care visits to Residents are permitted. A COVID negative test within the past 5 days may be necessary prior to the visit.
- Small group Dining, weekly Housekeeping and Activities have resumed.
- Essential non-medical Transportation is permitted.
- All entry screening is through the main lobbies of the Hodges Center, the Ridgemont and the main entrance for the Edgewood Summit building. Do not enter without being screened.
